Chestertons Sokcho

Chestertons Sokcho

A 968-room year-round resort wedged between the East Sea and Cheongchoho Lake — four buildings (A·B·C·D) holding a seasonal onsen pool, year-round healing sauna, indoor golf, kids' play space, fitness center, media room, and a nomad office on a single address.

In partnership with Chestertons

AI Concierge

Ask anything about Sokcho.

A concierge built for guests at Chestertons Sokcho— in English, any time.

Try

Chestertons Sokcho took the narrow strip of land between two bodies of water — the East Sea on one side, Cheongchoho Lake on the other — and put a 968-room resort on it. Most stays in Sokcho commit to one view. This one stretches across both, in four separate buildings labeled A through D, opened in 2021 and run as a year-round residence (생활숙박시설).

A weekend at a smaller hotel is a hotel weekend. A weekend here is closer to a small town with everything reachable on foot inside the perimeter — onsen pool, healing sauna, gym, indoor golf, kids' play area, a media room with an 85-inch screen and Nintendo Switch, a library, a nomad office for people who can't fully unplug.

The four buildings, at a glance

The address is one — 109 Expo-ro — but the resort is split across A, B, C, D plus a shared central plaza. Knowing which building holds what saves time on the first walk-around.

The breakfast buffet is in Building B. The pool and sauna are at the central plaza (not inside any of the lettered buildings). Fitness and indoor golf are both in Building C.

Five room lines, from studio to penthouse

Every room — Standard through Penthouse — ships with a king-size mattress, in-room washer/dryer, mini-fridge, Smart TV with streaming/OTT, private bath with bidet and full amenity kit, free high-speed Wi-Fi, and a parking spot at no extra charge. The lines differ in floorplan and headcount, not in base equipment.

Pricing flexes hard between season and category — a Standard on a February Tuesday is a very different number than a Penthouse on the second Saturday of August.

In-room amenities you can count on

  • Bed — king-size double, plush mattress, premium linens
  • Laundry — in-room washer/dryer, so longer stays don't pile up
  • Kitchen — mini-fridge for snacks and drinks (no full kitchen)
  • TV — Smart TV with streaming/OTT services preloaded
  • Wi-Fi — free high-speed across every unit
  • Bath — private bathroom, bidet, hairdryer, full amenity set

Facilities — hours, locations, and what they cost

Onsen Swimming Pool — the signature

Heated outdoor onsen pool — central plaza, ground floor, April–October
Heated outdoor onsen pool — central plaza, ground floor, April–October

The pool is the brochure cover for a reason. It sits on the central plaza at ground level, fed by hot-spring water, and the angle is set so you can see both the sea and the lake from the water at the same time.

  • Hours — 09:00 to 18:00
  • Break times — 13:00–14:00 and 18:00–19:00 (yes, two breaks)
  • Season — April through October only. November 1 to March 31, the pool is drained and closed.
  • Cost — free for in-house guests, check-in through check-out
  • Required — swimsuit and swim cap. Both are available to buy on-site if you forgot them.

Chiyu-in Onsen Sauna — year-round

Chiyu-in Onsen Sauna · Central Plaza B1 · open year-round
Chiyu-in Onsen Sauna · Central Plaza B1 · open year-round

The healing sauna underneath the pool runs every day except the first Tuesday of the month (with July and August excepted from that rule). Locals come for the sauna. Guests come because it's already included with the room key — at a guest rate, but more often than not, walked over after dinner.

  • Hours — 07:00 to 21:00, last entry one hour before close
  • Adult (14+) — ₩12,000
  • Child (36 months to 13 years) — ₩8,000
  • Under 36 months — free
  • Layout — separated by gender in the Korean style
  • Towels & basic amenities — provided. Bring personal toiletries if you have preferences.

A few honest caveats: guests with hypertension, diabetes, recent cardiovascular events, epilepsy, or significant skin conditions are asked not to enter. Children 36 months and older follow the gendered-entrance rule. Visible tattoos may restrict entry at the operator's discretion — if this is a concern, the in-room shower and the seasonal pool are the alternatives.

Useful to know for foreign guests

Is English spoken at the front desk? The front desk is staffed, but English fluency varies by shift. A translation app helps for detailed requests. The AI concierge above is in English 24/7 and is scoped to this property.

What language are the menus and signage in? Most signage and printed materials are in Korean. The breakfast buffet is self-served, so visual recognition handles most of it. 248 Grill runs a single-style menu, which keeps ordering simple.

Can I use the sauna if I have visible tattoos? Entry may be restricted at the operator's discretion. If unsure, the in-room shower and (in season) the outdoor pool are the alternatives.

Is the pool open in winter? No. The outdoor onsen pool runs April through October. From November 1 to March 31 it's closed for the season. The sauna stays open year-round.

Can I work from here for a week? Yes. The Standard line plus the Nomad Office handle a regular workation. For meetings, the Meeting Room (Building A) seats up to 12 by reservation at ₩100,000/hr.

Is the resort family-friendly? Strongly. Kids' Lock (Building A) is built for kids 36 months through preschool, the Media Room has Nintendo Switch and Mario Kart, the breakfast buffet has dedicated kids' pricing, and the Penthouse line sleeps seven-plus across multiple bedrooms.

Ask the concierge

The AI concierge at the top of this page is scoped specifically to Chestertons Sokcho. It knows which building holds the buffet, the pool's two daily breaks, the exact season the pool runs, and what's around the property. Ask anything from "where to eat dinner tonight" to "how do I get to Mt. Seorak tomorrow" to "what's open inside the resort when it's raining for three days straight."
