The story
After about a decade in food service, the owner came to Sokcho to run a food outlet at a condominium. When that operation ended, he chose to open a pork grill of his own. Sokcho Samgyeop opened in June 2024 on the second floor of a Saemaeul building near the beach, drawn by the open evening view and glimpses of the sea in daylight.
What they stand for
The couple split the work around dinner: she prepares the ingredients and side dishes, while he trims the meat and looks after the dining room. Pork comes from a butcher in Saemaeul. The grill stays focused on two Korean pork cuts, with vegetables and sides available from the self-service bar.
Behind the signature
The owner's favorite addition to the grilled pork is his soybean paste stew. Guests can ask for a gentle version for children or a spicier bowl to eat alongside drinks. Choose the finely scored pork belly for the familiar sizzle, or the thick cubes of pork neck for a meatier bite.
Local tip
The second-floor dining space includes indoor tables and open-air seats. Sea views are best in daylight, while the nearby hotels light up the evening. Weather can affect outdoor seating, so check before making the terrace the reason for your visit.
For travelers
The restaurant specializes in pork, so check that it suits everyone in your party before visiting. An English-speaking staff member can help with ordering. The owner recommends confirming the latest dinner hours in advance, especially if you are coming from elsewhere in Sokcho.
