The story
The owner left corporate and insurance-claims work in their late thirties and followed an aunt to Sokcho with a modest wish: to run a small cafe while looking at the sea. One Fine Day has opened three times. The first combined a cafe and guesthouse on the site now occupied by Bossa Nova; after about three years, the owner sold it for health reasons. A second chapter at Jeongam Beach in Yangyang lasted about three years before the space was leased out while the owner focused on raising a child. For the return to Sokcho, they built a new cafe on a previously purchased plot with an old abandoned house, choosing the site for its position beside the beach. Regulars from the first cafe still return.
“Even if it looks pretty and unusual, it still has to taste good.”
Owner, One Fine Day
What they stand for
Pretty and unusual is only the beginning: a menu must also taste good. The owner makes fruit preserves and prepares fruit and sweet corn directly, rather than relying on ready-made purees. During quieter seasons, trips to Bangkok, Japan, and Taiwan supply new ideas for drinks with a sense of play. Any experiment that fails the taste test is dropped. The aim is a small moment of delight, especially for families visiting with children.
Behind the signature
Ferris Wheel Bread grew out of the straight-on Sokcho Eye view from the second and third floors. Naver's owner introduction says it is baked to order with stretchy Jeju mozzarella. The cotton-candy latte began as a cloud at Jeongam Beach; after the return to Sokcho, character eyes made it even more appealing to children. Icon Latte uses sweet corn ground and cooked into cream, corn blended into a rested milk base, and espresso poured over the top. Whole-pineapple juice is another favorite, especially with international guests: the owner blends the fruit itself with homemade pineapple preserve.
Local tip
Look for the detached beige ONEFINEDAY building on the beachfront path, about 80 m to the left of Sokcho Beach's main entrance and the Sokcho Eye Ferris wheel when following the cafe's directions. Naver lists a roughly five-minute walk from Sokcho Express Bus Terminal. Choose an upper-floor seat for the sea and Ferris wheel view, then order a signature or the corn-coffee-and-bread set. Entrance wheelchair access is listed on Naver; upper-floor accessibility is not confirmed.
Seasonal note
The cafe rotates some signatures with the seasons, and the owner reports strong summer demand for whole-pineapple juice. Check the latest notice for holiday hours.
For travelers
International guests are especially drawn to the whole-pineapple juice. The owner remembers visitors expressing their appreciation for the flavors and the view with a glance or a nod as they leave, a reminder of how much a small exchange can mean. Many longtime customers have followed the cafe through its different seaside chapters.
