The story
After working in web design, advertising, tourism at Incheon Airport, and guesthouse operations, the owner returned to the Sokcho area with ideas for local souvenirs. Adopting a cat rescued from a breeding facility deepened a love of cats and inspired a shop that could help animals nearby. The space was their grandmother's former home, leased from relatives and renovated by the owner. From the first logo to opening the doors, the idea took around six to seven years to become a shop.
What they stand for
The owner makes and sells goods while also offering work on consignment by designers who share a love of cats. Handmade fabric goods by women from Yangyang farming communities are sold and promoted without a commission, according to the owner. Part of the shop's proceeds goes toward local street-cat and abandoned-animal support, including food, donations, and volunteer work.
Behind the signature
The shelves connect three interests: cats, everyday objects, and memories of Sokcho and Yangyang. Cat-themed pieces sit alongside souvenirs made for the two towns and handmade work by nearby makers. A gift can carry both a playful design and a local connection; ask who made the piece that catches your eye.
Local tip
The shop is on the first floor at 62 Saemaeul-gil, behind CU. From the intersection near Sokcho Beach's south entrance, take the alley between CU and Udongdang. The narrow lane makes parking in front of the shop difficult; the owner recommends the beach's south-entrance public parking or a nearby temporary lot.
For travelers
Price tags, pictures, and pointing help international visitors choose goods. Show the item you like and confirm its price before buying. The owner remembers international travelers completing a Korean-language stamp tour organized with other Saemaeul merchants. Ask locally whether a tour is running during your visit.
