Near Cheongcho Lake, Cheongchodam makes room for a slower conversation. The couple behind this roastery and dessert cafe chose a lofty, plant-filled room over a second floor of tables, bringing together his life in music and her background in fine art. Start with the black sesame cream latte, layered with espresso and milk, and pair it with salt bread. In autumn, chestnut and sweet potato lattes join the familiar favorites; winter brings the strawberry tiramisu regulars ask about all year. The welcome starts at the counter, right by the door.

Pro tip: Open daily 09:30–21:30; last order 21:00. There are four parking spaces in front; Expo No. 4 public parking is about 50 m away. Pets must be in a carrier or pet stroller; the cafe lists paid rentals. English menu labels, Wi-Fi and highchairs are available. Decaf and oat milk changes are each +₩500. The black sesame latte contains espresso, milk and sesame; ask staff about ingredients and allergies.

## Story

### How it started
Cheongchodam (靑草談) brings greenery and conversation into the same name. Its owners are a couple who continue their creative work alongside the cafe: he spent more than 20 years producing music and writing songs in Seoul, while she studied fine art and taught corporate art programs through her work with curators. Their shared space brings those two lives together, with plants indoors and music flowing through vintage JBL speakers.

### Philosophy
The couple could have added a mezzanine and more seats. Instead, they kept the full height of the room, choosing space to breathe over another floor of tables. Indoor planting and curved details soften the building's harder lines. Nature is part of the room itself, a place to settle into after exploring Sokcho.

### Signature
The black sesame cream latte has been here since the cafe's early days. Freshly roasted Korean black sesame goes into the cream above espresso and milk, a flavor some international guests seek out before they arrive. Einspanner is the other house signature, with sweet milk cream over coffee. Salt bread is the owners' current bestseller; potato bread and seasonal desserts offer another reason to linger over a cup.

### Finding the place
Find the cafe on the first floor at 206 Cheongchohoban-ro, near Cheongcho Lake Park and the Seokbong Ceramic Museum. Four cars can park in front; Expo No. 4 public parking is about 50 m away. Pets are welcome in a carrier or pet stroller; ask about paid rentals at the cafe. Potato-bread boxes contain six pieces for ₩20,000; call at least an hour ahead to reserve.

### Seasonal notes
The owners collect ideas in Seoul and on trips abroad, keeping familiar favorites alongside a changing seasonal menu. Autumn brings a warm sweet potato latte topped with soft castella and a Korean chestnut latte. Strawberry tiramisu is the winter favorite: strawberry syrup takes the place of coffee between the layers. Its season runs from December to April; ask about availability before making a special trip. Corn Basque cheesecake is part of the cafe's dessert repertoire; ask what is on the counter today.

### For international visitors
The counter sits immediately by the entrance, so the owners see their greeting as the cafe's first impression. Some international visitors order their usual espresso, cappuccino or oat latte; others arrive ready to try the black sesame latte. Both receive the same welcome. The menu has English labels, and decaf and oat milk changes are listed. Ask staff about changing both the milk and any cream toppings.
